The men’s rugby club have one A team, and play weekly matches against other colleges. Rugby is a really popular sport here at Butler, and even though we only have one team, it’s quite large, and we have a massive variety in the levels of experience. Come along to trainings to see what you could bring to the rugby team next year!

This year, the women’s rugby team is planning on merging with the John Snow and Stevenson rugby teams to increase participation and interest- exciting times! It would be brilliant to get many more women involved in women’s rugby this year, especially given these new plans! We can’t wait for what next year brings, we’ll be training and playing to be better than ever!

Socials

The Men’s rugby team hold frequent socials throughout term organised by our two social secretaries, taking a wide variety of themes such as Christmas and Six Nations. These will always begin at JB’s, our college bar, and we will then make our way down the hill into Durham City centre whilst enjoying the hospitalities that the colleges on our route down have to offer. Although these may not be possible in a Covid world, we will ensure that we continue to build a very tight Butler Rugby community in whatever way we can.

Wider Experience

Butler Rugby not only offers an excellent experience within the club, both playing and socialising, but also provides great opportunities to engage in the community on a wider level. We have showed our commitment to this through funding ventures such as our Butler Rugby vs Butler Netball charity netball match, as well as many players taking part in Movember. A further opportunity that JBRFC has enjoyed recently was the chance to represent Durham University as their selected college against Hull University 2nd XV. Despite our marginal loss this was a hugely enjoyable day out for everyone involved, as well as being a great honour for the club as a whole.

Subs

Men’s: £20 yearly, £30 for non-JCR members.
